Saskatchewan Hospital
New Beginnings Campaign

Since the building of the original Saskatchewan Hospital more than a century ago, perceptions and treatment of mental illness have undergone radical transformation. The current facility is long past its prime. The infrastructure is worn out, and the building falls terribly short of meeting the needs of patients. Fortunately, construction on the new building has begun and will be completed in 2018.

The new hospital will be the cornerstone of mental health services for the entire province. The building and its grounds will reflect inspiring and heartwarming care built on empathy, empowerment and hope. It will feature enhanced treatment and gathering spaces, replacing dark and crowed facilities with open, sunlit rooms that combine community and privacy with:

  • Furnished private bedrooms and shared bathrooms with one other person
  • Innovative features such as the therapy mall hallway
  • An indoor courtyard including a canteen, coffee shop and small stage for performances
  • Suites that enable families to stay comfortably while supporting their loved ones
  • An onsite health clinic offering dental, optometry, x-ray, ultrasound and lab services
  • A physiotherapy centre including treatment beds, recumbent exercise bikes and balance bars
  • A gym, 2 fully equipped fitness rooms and a recreation room with pool and foosball tables
  • An outdoor recreation area with skating rink, horseshoe area, basketball and volleyball courts
  • An internet café where patients can stay connected with family and friends
  • 3 community reintegration homes to assist patients in reclaiming their independence

Together we can ensure that the new Saskatchewan Hospital is ready to meet the needs of the next generation of patients and their families – giving hope and support when they need it most for a new century of caring.
